The 2024 Ghana National Debate Team Trials: A Showcase of Talent and Passion

It was a weekend filled with excitement and anticipation as around 100 debaters from across the country gathered at Academic City College University in Accra for the 2024 Ghana National Debate Team Trials. This prestigious event brought together students from over 30 schools, including Wesley Girls High School, Ghana Senior High School, The Ridge School (1966), Prempeh College, Alpha Beta Christian College, Aburi Girls' High School, Achimota School, DPS International, Presbyterian Boys High School and Legacy Girls College.

The trials, which took place on 23rd and 24th September, was a platform for these talented young individuals to showcase their skills and passion for debating. The atmosphere was electric as the participants engaged in high-level speech and team activities, leaving no stone unturned in their quest to secure a spot on the national team.

Each debater brought their unique style and perspective to the trials, making it a truly captivating experience for both the judges and the audience. The topics ranged from socio-political issues to global affairs, allowing the debaters to demonstrate their knowledge and critical thinking abilities.

Not only did the trials showcase the debaters' intellectual prowess, but they also highlighted their teamwork and collaboration skills. The participants were divided into teams and engaged in group activities that tested their ability to work together, listen to others' perspectives, and find common ground.

After two intense days of competition, the selectors face the difficult task of selecting the final team members. The decision will not be an easy one, as the talent and dedication displayed by all the participants were truly commendable. However, only a select few would make it to the national team.

The selected debaters will now undergo further training and preparation before being inducted into the 2024 Ghana National Debate Team at the end of the year. They will have the opportunity to represent their country in various international debate competitions, showcasing the intellectual prowess and eloquence that Ghana is known for.
